Sometimes the beauty of a particular day – or part of a day – comes from what you see.

It can be an ordinary scene that transforms into something extraordinary, like unexpected swaths of color at sunset above a familiar location. Making a picture lets you return to that moment over and over again, as this picture taken several months ago allows me to do:

February EveningOther times, the beauty comes from something less visible, such as a feeling.

Today something beautiful rose out of a tragic event. The trick is grabbing hold of the feeling and saving it for later, as if it were a picture.
