Red Haze

Posted on | August 22, 2015 | No Comments

For about a week our valley has been in the path of transport winds carrying smoke from massive fires to the northwest.

Today the haze increased significantly, veiling the mountains to the point they are barely visible unless very near their base. The scent of burning timber and sage has also increased, as if the blazes were in the neighboring county instead of hundreds of miles away.

The thick smoke also creates eerie scenes at sunrise and sunset. Tonight I went to the west hills where Gunsight would normally dominate the background, but it’s outline is barely discernible through the smoke:

Red HazeHopefully conditions will improve allowing fire crews battling the blazes to safely gain the upper hand. Until then our thoughts will be with them under this constant reminder of their struggle.
